About Us With the United States losing 1,800 veterans a day, it is important that the memories of these veterans are honored and remembered. The museum aims to preserve these memories and display them for generations to come in an effort to educate and inspire patriotism in younger generations. The HEARTS (Helping Every American Remember Through Serving) Veterans Museum of Texas started with the vision and hard work of the co-founders Charlie Davis and Charlotte Oleinik in 1994. The museum has now become one of the finest examples of a grassroots organization and a museum of living history as well as a depository for military artifacts. Museum volunteers send care packages to troops overseas, host patriotic military reunions and participate in parades and other special events in the Huntsville area. They provide a network of support for veterans including helping with paperwork, medals and post-traumatic stress giving veterans a chance to heal emotionally. We have a lot going on!In 2006 the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum of Texas board and Walker County entered into an agreement to apply for a F.E.M.A. Grant in the amount of $2,814,000., and a Texas O.R.C.A. Grant in the amount of $350,000 to build an emergency shelter/conference center on museum property, including a parking lot and driveways. This would be a 14,000 sf building with kitchen, bathrooms, and meeting facilities. The facility had been included in our overall building plans. These grants are funded and an architect has been selected. It will be constructed next to the proposed museum site. The museum has made application for additional acreage from the State of Texas. This would extend our property to the interstate and create an outside display area to house larger displays, i.e. TANKS, AIRPLANES, and HELICOPTERS. At this time the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum Board Chairman, Richie Harris, believes that with an additional $300,000, the museum could construct a slab and erect a metal building that could house the museum. This would be for a central atrium and museum proper totaling 15,000 sf. Currently the H.E.A.R.T.S. Museum has Eighty Thousand ($80,000.) in building funds and is working to reach Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000.). Museum Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. The museum is located in the West Hill Mall on Hwy 30 (one block west of I-45) in Huntsville, Texas.
